From Rexburg Idaho USA, we had the pleasure of hosting James Reed at Wintershoek for a few days of Hunting at the end of November. James is the director of advertising and sales for the renowned Sports Afield magazine and what a fine gentleman at that! PH Yvan Nieuwoudt was assigned to trek into the woods with James, who was really hoping to bag a big old Eland bull; seems that an Eland has eluded James on numerous other hunts that he has undertaken in other parts of southern Africa! Until James read our WJVS slogan “When you’ve tried the rest, come and hunt with the BEST”. The proof is in the pictures added by a small write up by James …. I’ve had a fantastic hunt at Wintershoek. We were specifically looking to take a big mature eland bull. Yvan and I had hiked and glassed many miles in the three days we’d hunted, passing up over thirty different eland bulls. The morning of our third day we were climbing kopjes and glassing down into the savannahs below. On about our fourth set we spotted a group of seven eland bulls far out on the flats with one looking very promising even from a great distance. Yvan made a plan and we circled to the far and downwind side to begin our approach. The wind was right but the cover was sparse so we had to move very cautiously and slowly from tree to tree to get into position. There was abundant other game in the area but we managed to crawl into a good position undetected. The bulls were bedded so we set up in the shade of a tree about 70 yards from the bulls and began our wait. After over an hour the bull we wanted stood up and I took the shot. What a fantastic old bull and an unforgettable hunt. Yvan made all the right plans and his decisions to wait and pass up the other bulls rewarded us with this tremendous old bull. The amount and quality of the game was amazing. My thanks to Johnny, Wiaan, and the whole crew, you are truly gentlemen and professionals. My heartfelt thanks to Yvan who is a first class PH in everyaspect.

With huge experience under his belt in hunting African and North American game, James dream finally came true when he and Yvan outsmarted this great Eland bull …. Way to go James!
James also took a rare White Springbok ram to add to his species collection.

No matter what, where or how anything that James and Yvan were hunting stood; as long as James could see it, he would hit it!! Excellent marksmanship out in the sticks James, especially on this Jackal that are vermin in our areas.
