At the recent SCI show in Las Vegas this year Wiaan and Johnny were approached by our good friend and PH Cliff Walker of Walker & Watson Safaris and Doug Stein of Maryland USA. They knew of a young USA Marine Sniper Aaron Howell (25) who had lost both his legs and a bunch of fingers in a blast in Afghanistan 2 years ago that left him critically wounded. Doug knows Aaron well and Aaron’s dream was always to go and hunt in Africa. It was at this exact time in our booth in Las Vegas, that Cal and Marian Hinebauch from the Desert Chapter heard of Aarons bucket list wish. Well the rest of the story is history!
Wintershoek Johnny Vivier Safaris donated an 8 night 7 day safari with 7 different species of game to Aaron which is amazing! The Desert Chapter and their President David Small, along with Cal and Marian, so kindly donated Aaron’s air fare! Walker and Watson Safaris and Doug Stein, recruited some of their clients and friends, who so generously donated funds so that Aaron could shoot a few more trophies and to cover expenses along the way. African San Taxidermy has also came on board and offered their support towards the trophy care. HP Productions Filming Company also showed their mettle as well with the entire safari being captured on film, Wow! What a great all round team effort in realizing this young soldier’s dream and for turning it all into reality ….. Incredible!! Talk about feel good? we all feel darn right fantastic right now!
Aaron couldn’t have thanked us all enough and it was an absolute pleasure to host such a fine young gentleman and soldier in our camp at Wintershoek Johnny Vivier Safaris South Africa …. Semper Fi
